The abdominal binder is appropriate for treatment of abdominal diastasis (abdominal separation)after having your baby. It is most appropriate for an abdominal diastasis - separation when it is larger than 5cm or causing back pain.
We often recommend the binder for those with abdominal diastasis - separation less than 5cm if the lady has other young children which they will be lifting. This will help protect the area and enable healing.
The abdominal binder needs to be used in conjunction with an appropriate physiotherapy rehabilitation program for your deep abdominal muscles. Many women make the mistake of thinking the binder is all they need to fix this condition.
Here at Core Control Physiotherapy we can:
- Measure your diastasis correctly and supply the appropriate support
- Educate you about this condition
- Educate you as to correct lifting, positioning and ways to modify tasks to minimise aggravation of the condition
- Teach you correct technique to strengthen appropriate muscles to reduce your separation
- Progress your home exercises appropriately and at regular intervals
- Treat other associated conditions
- Involve you in our physiotherapist run group sessions
- Involve you in our clinical pilates machine based programs
